State Attorney Dave Aronberg is at Guantanamo Bay Naval base in Cuba this week.
Aronberg is representing the National District Attorneys Association during the criminal hearings of accused terrorist mastermind Abdul al Hadi al Iraqi.
Al Hadi, an Iraq citizen, is one of 17 high-value detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, having been there for nine years and seven months.
The accused terrorist is charged with various war crimes and attacks on coalition forces in Pakistan and Afghanistan in 2003 and 2004.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to observe up close our system of justice as it relates to terrorist suspects, and to meet with the brave men and women of our military who keep us safe every day,” Aronberg said in a news release.
